Conflicting standards lead to trouble

Recently, a base (for pixel dolls) was moved from the base category to the "misc" category because it had computer-generated text within the file.

Obviously the computer-generated text is not pixel art, but the only reason why it was there was because it was the copyright and the rules for using the base. A lot of people just save the image files and don't even bother to read the artist's comments, so when the person who saved the image finally goes to use the base, they don't know where it came from or what exactly they can do with it - if the rules aren't part of the image.

If I made bases, I'd put my rules and copyright right in the image, and I've seen countless other people do it as well. It needs to be done because people in general are too incompetent and in a rush to read the rules the base creator set for the base!

When the rules and copyright are in the same file, it does not detract from the base. The focus is still the base. If people would read the rules for a base they plan to use, then the need to put them within the same file as the base would not exist. Sadly this is not the case, and it probably never will be.

In the mean time, the rules need to be on the base, and the people in charge here need to realize the need for this. Just because the rules, written in computer-generated text, are on the base file doesn't mean it still isn't a pixel base.

No prob. Those of us who have brains need to take steps to protect ourselves from those who don't have brains. D:

Hey, I read the rules for a base before downloading it (when the site I find it on HAS rules...I think there are a few in my saved collection that were stolen from the original base maker as there were NO rules for them, no copyright info at all...and now not only can I NOT find the site I got them from, but I can't find them at all normally) but that doesn't mean I remember by the time I get around to using it. So I LOVE having the rules, or at least the artists copyright with their name on the base, so I can re-find it easily and re-read the rules before using! I simply read the rules for, then save, any base I really like and can use within it's rule set...but sometimes it will be literally YEARS before I even TRY to use the base. By then, it's hard to remember specific rules, or even who a base belongs to if it's not on the file, or in the file name. So I whole heartedly support that info being ON the base file to begin with, and it NOT changing where the base belongs anymore than any other watermark would for any other category! *has NO dolls or pixel works on this account, as she has a separate account for them containing her very, very few successful dolls she doesn't mind other people seeing.*
